Nov 6: Vancity Angels Make Christmas Special
Vancity Angels Make Christmas Special For Needy Kids
Surrey, November 6, 2002 - Vancity Credit Union's Cedar Hills Community Branch, in partnership with the Surrey Women's Centre Society, will be making children's wishes come true this holiday season by putting up an Angel Tree.
The Angel Tree is a Christmas tree decorated with angels made by local elementary school children and Vancity staff. Each one bears the name, age and wish of a Surrey child who might not otherwise share in the joy of the holiday season. Members of the public are invited to take an angel off the tree and fulfill the wish.
The tree will be decking the halls of Vancity's Cedar Hills branch for a month starting Mid-November. The season will kick off with a special tree decorating party 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13. Members of the public are invited to join community leaders, as well as branch staff and members of the Surrey Women's Society, for the official launch of this gift-giving program.
The festivities will continue on December 17, when Vancity and Surrey Women's Society will host a joint gift-wrapping party. The Surrey Women's Centre Society will then deliver the presents to the children in time for Christmas.
This is the first time that the Cedar Hills branch has had an Angel Tree, although Vancity launched the Angel Tree program three years ago at the Port Coquitlam Community Branch with resounding success.
