Jul 22: Grant Money for Environmental Groups
Vancity Offers Grant Money for Environmental Groups
Vancouver, July 22, 2003 - Vancity Credit Union is accepting applications until September 1, 2003 from non-profit organizations in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Victoria for its EnviroFund grants, which provide up to $25,000 to local groups for environmental projects.
This year, Vancity is looking for projects focusing on alternative transportation, water quality/ consumption or hazardous wastes and toxins in the environment.
The funds come from Vancity's VISA program, which donates five per cent of its profits from its Gold, Silver and EnviroFund credit cards to the EnviroFund. The fund provides grants to local community groups whose projects provide long-term solutions to environmental problems in the community.
Last year, four organizations received $100,000 in total. Since the program was established in 1990, $902,000 has been donated to support environmental projects. To find out how to submit an application for a 2003 EnviroFund grant, visit vancity.com/grants or call 604-877-7620.
