Vancity named among North America's top 10 psychologically healthy workplaces
Vancouver, October 20, 2004 –Vancity Credit Union is one of 10 organizations in North America to be recognized by the American Psychological Association for its innovative programs and policies that help create psychologically healthy workplaces. Vancity is the first Canadian company to receive this distinction.
Vancity received a “Best Practices Honour” for its robbery support program. The initiative helps staff gain resilience skills to cope with a robbery. Over a number of years, the program has enabled Vancity to reduce the time employees have taken off due to robbery from 35.9 days to 2 days, which is significantly below the industry average.
“Our employees are our greatest resource and their safety and well-being are top priorities. We are proud of this honour and will continue to take steps to ensure Vancity stays a great and safe place to work,” says Donna Wilson, Vancity’s vice-president of Human Resources.
The Best Practices Honours is an international program developed by the APA that recognizes companies for innovative programs and policies that stand out for fostering a psychologically healthy workplace. Nominees for this national award were selected from a pool of more than 180 state-level Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award winners and submitted for consideration by the psychological association of the state or province in which the company is located.
