Vancity wins Volunteer Vancouver "Caring Companies" award
Vancouver, May 3, 2001 - Vancity Credit Union has won a prestigious "Caring Companies" Award from Volunteer Vancouver as part of its annual volunteer awards recognition program.
Vancity is one of 12 recipients to be honoured this year, out of more than 130 nominees. It is one of only two companies to receive the "Caring Companies" award.
The nomination came from AIDS Vancouver, which recognized Vancity for its outstanding support of the HIV/AIDS community in the Lower Mainland and beyond, particularly in the areas of sponsorship and employee volunteerism.
"We are thrilled to win this award and want to recognize the significant contribution of so many of our staff members whose hard work has made this possible," says Vancity CEO Dave Mowat.
"Many of our employees spend endless hours working on behalf of Vancity for countless organizations in the community. In this, the International Year of the Volunteer, it means a lot to have this contribution recognized in such an exciting and public way."
The award ceremony will be held on May 9th at Vancouver's Westin Bayshore Resort & Marina. In addition to its win, Vancity has also sponsored an award for community service by a group. This award will go to the Vancouver Aquarium Volunteer Team.
Vancity is Canada's largest credit union with 39 branches in Greater Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Victoria, $6.9 billion in assets and 266,000 members.
