Million-Dollar Decision for 271,000 Vancity Credit Union Members
Vancouver, September 4, 2001 - Voting starts today for the 271,000 Vancity Credit Union members who will get to choose the first recipient of The Vancity Award, a new $1-million award that will go to a BC-based non-profit organization.
The four finalists for The Vancity Award include: Better Environmentally Sound Transportation, an environmental transportation advocacy group that is proposing to build a greenway from New Westminster, through Coquitlam and Burnaby to Vancouver; Green Thumb Theatre for Young People, a theatre company that produces topical plays, for the purchase or renovation of a theatre; United Community Services Co-operative, a network of community organizations, for the construction or renovation of a leadership centre; and West Coast Environmental Law, an environmental policy-making organization that plans to transform a Vancouver heritage building into a state-of-the-art "green building".
