When the W. A. Memorial House, home base of the Anglican Church Women (ACW) of the Diocese of New Westminster, became too costly to maintain, the ACW looked for alternatives.
By selling the W. A. Memorial House and investing half of the proceeds through Vancity Investment Management (VCIM), the ACW is now able to lease warehouse space and continue its good works, secure in the financial stability its investment provides. Members of the ACW can also rest easy knowing their investment through VCIM follows a socially responsible investing model, ensuring the proceeds from the Memorial House sale represent the values of the ACW.
With stable financing now in place, the ACW can maintain its principal outreach program; the “Bales to the North,” where bales of good used clothing and household goods are sent to northern parishes, (at times hundreds of kilometres from the nearest shopping centre), in the Diocese of the Yukon. Also the ACW collects donations for third-world development funds, local street ministries, aid societies, and many other initiatives.
