Burnaby Winter Club

Burnaby Winter Club has been able to upgrade two of its aging hockey rinks, replace a leaking roof and refit its lobby and cafeteria thanks to an $800,000 construction loan from Vancity. The deal puts the club in a better position to retain members and recruit new ones by providing consistent, even ice surfaces that use less energy to maintain.

The refit of the hockey rinks included replacing their sand base with cement, which means that ice can be prepared or removed more quickly so the club can rent the space for other events. This gives the club much more versatility with the space and allows it to diversify its sources of future income.
