Fellow co-operatives in Japan receive support from Vancity
Co-operative organizations were not spared from the severe damage from the earthquake and tsunami which struck northeast Japan on March 11, 2011. Though the effects of this crisis will eventually fade away from news headlines, the victims of this disaster and our fellow co-operatives will continue to need assistance for years to come as they rebuild their organizations.
When the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) established the Japan Disaster Recovery Fund to facilitate contributions to benefit the co-operative movement in Japan, we immediately jumped on board. Vancity has donated $25,000 to the fund to help co-operative organizations survive after this devastating disaster. The Co-operative Movement has a long history of supporting one another through crises, and Japanese co-operatives have always been at the forefront in providing assistance to those in need. We hope that our donation to the Japan Disaster Recovery Fund will help our counterparts overseas.
If you would like to donate to the ICA’s Japan Disaster Recover Fund, a pledge form and more information are available on their website.
You can also donate funds to Japan earthquake relief through organizations such as The Canadian Red Cross, The Humanitarian Coalition, The Salvation Army, Unicef, or World Vision.
