Vancity's sponsorship

Vancity is proud to sponsor the From homeless to homes: How Vancouver is helping our most vulnerable citizens event. We are committed to helping community organizations invest in social purpose real estate and also work with housing providers and buyers to create more affordable housing.

BRITISH COLUMBIA (October 14, 2011) - According to initial results from the 2011 Metro Vancouver Homeless Count, a total of 2,623 people were found to be homeless. Statistically, that represents a one-per-cent decrease since the 2008 count.

So, how do we keep this momentum to ensure that the homeless population continues to decrease? What are we getting right and what needs to improve?

The Vancouver Board of Trade, in partnership with the City of Vancouver, presents a panel discussion this Friday, Oct. 14, as part of the city's sixth annual Homelessness Action Week.

Keynote speaker Judy Graves will be joined by three expert panellists — including RainCity Housing's Mark Smith, Streetohome's Dick Vollet, and city councillor Kerry Jang — in a discussion on how the city, and the business community, can invest in strategies to reduce homelessness. City of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson will also be in attendance. This event is sponsored by the City of Vancouver and Vancity.

Speakers

  • Judy Graves - housing advocate, City of Vancouver
  • Mark Smith - executive director, RainCity Housing and Support Society
  • Dick Vollet - president and CEO, Streetohome Foundation Kerry Jang, councillor, City of Vancouver
