Support for DTES and CCAP

It’s unfortunate that Vancity’s statement about CCAP funding has been misinterpreted. Vancity has never provided CCAP with any ultimatums, and we appreciate their important voice and perspective on the issues facing the DTES. We’ve been funding CCAP since 2005 and over this time have put more than $275k into their important work to focus attention on housing issues. We’ve also put another $100k into Carnegie itself for various programs for the neighbourhood. Our funding of CCAP is annual, and when they asked if we’d continue to fund them, we said we’d discuss that in the fall, which is when their funding renewal date is. This is the same process we follow with any partner who has renewable funding.
In addition to the funding provided to CCAP over the years, we’ve made additional investments into the community over the past few weeks, including new seed funding to the Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood Council to help this emerging voice for residents. Vancity remains committed to the DTES and ensuring all voices are represented.
