Kristen Rivers, Rita Parikh, Patrick Nangle, and Joel DeYoung elected to Vancity’s Board of Directors

Vancity welcomes one new and three returning directors

Thursday, May 5, 2022, Territories of Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations/Vancouver B.C. – Members of Vancity credit union have elected Kristen Rivers to the Board of Directors for the first time. Retaining their seats on the board through re-election are Rita Parikh, Patrick Nangle and Joel DeYoung. Kristen, Rita and Patrick were each elected to three year-terms. Joel was elected for a two-year term, replacing Juvarya Veltkamp who stepped down from the Board in April.

Patrick Nangle has been elected for a three-year term.

Joel DeYoung has been elected for a two-year term.

“One unique aspect of credit unions is the ability for members to have a direct say in the composition of the board of directors,” said Lily Grewal, Chair of Vancity’s Nominations and Election Committee. “Those elected to the board this year bring a range of diverse expertise and perspectives, and we look forward to them working toward Vancity’s vision of a transformed economy that protects the earth and guarantees equity for all. We thank all the candidates who put themselves forward with the desire to lead our credit union.”

During the election, which took place from April 4 to April 22, a total of 26,391 total valid ballots were cast. Full results from Vancity’s 2022 Board of Directors’ election are as follows:

  • Kristin Rivers – 20,443 votes
  • Rita Parikh – 20,104 votes
  • Patrick Nangle – 18,376 votes
  • Joel DeYoung – 16,344 votes
  • Paul Platter – 6,435 votes
  • Shaji Matthew – 3,722 votes
