This marks the 15th consecutive year Vancity has earned this distinction, reflecting its ongoing commitment to excellence in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.
In the 22nd annual Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada ranking, Vancity placed 13th overall out of 340 assessed companies, earned the top spot among Canadian financial institutions, and ranked third among 812 global financial institutions. The ranking evaluates companies based on 25 ESG indicators, using publicly available information to benchmark their performance against industry peers.
Corporate Knights praised Vancity for its standout performance in diversity, clean investments, and the generation of clean revenue through impact loans and treasury investments. The credit union was also commended for its employee benefits, which include paid sick leave, gender diversity in leadership, and a fair CEO-to-average-worker pay ratio.
"We're proud to be named one of Canada’s Best Corporate Citizens again," said Wellington Holbrook, CEO and President of Vancity. "Since its founding over 78 years ago, Vancity has used financial tools and community connections to boost economic opportunities, improve member wellbeing, and create cleaner and fairer communities."
“Banks and credit unions have a huge impact on both the economy and society. Vancity will keep using that influence to address the climate crisis and break down barriers from financial exclusion,” added Wellington.
