Supporting the PNE in its environmental sustainability initiatives

As a long-standing community partner with the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), Vancity is thrilled to contribute to the PNE’s efforts to improve its environmental practices. Vancity’s support has taken many forms, including technical assistance, a grant for an environmental audit and assistance connecting the PNE with community partners with great ideas around reducing the PNE’s environmental footprint.

Here are just a few more ways that Vancity is contributing to the PNE’s environmental efforts:

• Eco Alley : Vancity’s Eco Alley will be a fun, informative and interactive area where PNE guests can learn about current PNE green initiatives, share ideas about further reducing the environmental impact of the PNE and find out new ways to be greener in their day-to-day lives.
• Food scraps composting: Vancity’s partner, Recycling Alternative will run a demonstration project, to test feasibility of composting food scraps from vendors on-site at The Fair at the PNE. Find out more information about the city's Food Scraps curbside collection.
• A bike valet service : Located inside the PNE gates, this secure bicycle storage area will be free to Fair at the PNE guests, providing peace of mind to cyclists that their bicycle is safe and secure.
• Cowpower : Vancity will “Cowpower” all the electricity consumed at The Fair on Vancity Member Day. What is Cowpower? It’s a Vancity community partner that processes cow manure to make electricity and a high-nutrient natural soil amendment.
