When Linh Truong and her husband relocated from Victoria to Vancouver, they were unable to find a soap refilling store similar to the one they frequented in Victoria. They decided to open up The Soap Dispensary, which refills customers’ reusable containers with soaps made from non-toxic, natural ingredients. Their store is perfect for families and individuals with sensitivities.
Vancity provided Linh with financing and credit for leasehold improvements and expenses.
Products can be custom-scented with pure essential oils. The store carries 10 soap brands and refills many products including household cleaners, and a few unexpected products like hairspray and deodorant. Whenever possible, The Soap Dispensary strives to stock local natural products. “We’re always thinking creatively about how we can reduce our own and our customers’ impact on the environment,” says Linh. The Soap Dispensary offers community workshops on natural cleaning and composting techniques.
The Soap Dispensary has an ideal location on Main Street where environmentally conscious and health-oriented residents and shoppers gather. On its first year anniversary, The Soap Dispensary announced that more than 3,600 bottles and containers were diverted from landfills and energy-dependent recycling.
