Vancity members contribute more than $200,000 to 33 BC non-profits
Community Project Grants awarded to local organizations in 11 different municipalities
Vancouver, May 27, 2010: Thanks to Vancity members, grants totaling $204,250 are going to 33 local not-for-profit organizations to support community projects in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island. The grants will be used to fund a variety of initiatives that benefit the social, environmental, and economic well-being of the local community.
Now in their 16th year, Community Project Grants are one part of Vancity’s Shared Success program, where 30 per cent of annual profits are invested back into members and their communities. Vancity’s strong financial performance in 2009 means $15.2 million will be reinvested this year through Shared Success.
The Community Project Grants are awarded three times a year to not-for-profit community organizations focusing on climate change, social economy and poverty reduction. Last year, Vancity distributed approximately $8.3 million to more than 200 organizations through the Shared Success program.
“Thanks to our members choosing to do business with Vancity, we are able to make this investment back into the communities in which we live and work to help make a difference,” says Patrice Pratt, Vancity Board Chair. “All of these organizations are doing such incredible work in each of their communities, and are well-deserving of this funding. We are looking forward to seeing what they accomplish.”
