Vancity is helping build the wealth of BC communities
Community Project Grants contribute nearly $300,000 to 37 local not-for-profits
Vancouver, BC, September 27, 2010: As part of Vancity’s commitment to the communities it serves, the credit union is contributing $289,802 in grants to not-for-profit organizations across the Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. The grants will fund initiatives that benefit the social, environmental, and economic well-being of the communities in which they operate.
“Shared Success is rooted in how we are redefining wealth to encompass not only the financial, but also the social and environmental prosperity of our members, and our communities,” says Patrice Pratt, Vancity Board Chair. “As a financial co-operative, it’s rewarding to know we can help these organizations to make a difference, and we congratulate them as they continue their important work in building healthy, sustainable communities.”
The Community Project Grants are part of Vancity’s Shared Success program, where 30 per cent of the credit union’s annual net profits are directed back to members and into communities. These grants are awarded three times each year to not-for-profit organizations focusing on climate change, social economy and poverty reduction. Vancity’s strong financial performance in 2009 means $15.2 million is being reinvested this year through Shared Success.
