Three directors elected to Vancity board
Election results example of co-operative values in action
May 2, 2014, Vancouver, B.C. — Vancity is pleased to announce Anita Braha, Lily Grewal and Theodora Lamb have been elected to its board of directors, each for a three-year term.
"Democratic member control is an essential part of being a co-operative, and we thank the 16 members who made the commitment to run in our board of directors election this year," says Greg McDade, chair of the nominations and election committee. "We also want to thank all our members who participated in the process and made sure their voice was heard."
During the election, which took place from March 31 to April 25, a total of 21,312 valid ballots and 55,275 votes were cast. Members voted online, in-branch, and by mail, with a 29-per-cent increase in online voting this year.
The following three candidates received the highest number of votes:
Anita Braha received 10,815 votes. A Vancity member since 1991,
she has been re-elected for a second term on the board.
Lily Grewal received 9,013 votes. A Vancity member since 2003,
she has been elected for a first term on the board.
Theodora Lamb received 7,823 votes. A Vancity member since 2008,
she has been elected for a first term on the board.
